Benefits of Participation

New! Undergraduates interested in the McNair program have the opportunity to apply for housing in the Living / Learning Center and become part of a vibrant residential learning community. With this arrangement - subject to customary room and board fees - participants reside in a McNair Program Suite, interact on a regular basis with current McNair Scholars, and engage in a project of service to the university community.

Once selected formally to the program, McNair Scholars at UVM receive these benefits at no cost:

  • Mentoring and research opportunities with faculty
  • Summer research internship with generous stipend payment
  • Summer room & board
  • Laptop computer and software
  • Technology training
  • Research and laboratory supplies during summer internship
  • An Individual Education Action Plan (IEAP)
  • McNair Seminar for credit

TRiO / McNair
The McNair Scholars Program is a federal Trio program funded through a grant from the US Department of Education.
