GUIDELINES: Term Papers

SUGGESTIONS:

1.           Use the MEDLINE computer search service at the Dana Medical Library.

 

2.         Read over the University’s policy on academic integrity

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

1.         The paper must be word-processed.

 

2.         The paper must be organized in such a way that there are headings for each section of the paper; i.e.

    1. Introduction and/or Purpose of the Paper;
    2. "topic A",
    3. topic B"
    4. etc........
    5. Summary;
    6. Conclusions

 

3.         The title of the paper must be indicative of the focus of the paper.

 

4.         Proofread your paper very carefully and get someone else to proofread it. A "perfect" paper will have NO misspelled words.

 

5.         Sentence and paragraphs must be constructed with appropriate syntax

 

6.         The page counts must be exactly as agreed upon (both a minimum page number and a maximum page number). Page counts do NOT include graphs, tables, figures, or the bibliography)

 

7.         The paper must be organized so that it is easy to follow

8. When uploading a paper to WebCT, you must use either Microsoft Word or PDF..

 

FOOTNOTES / END NOTES

1.         You can use either footnotes or end notes (but not both).

 

2.       The footnotes or end notes must follow the generally accepted style format. If in doubt, check the Journal of Nuclear Medicine Technology or Radiologic Technology

 

3.        As a guideline, there normally will be at least 2 footnotes or end notes per page in the term paper, i.e. a 3-page paper will have ~ 6 footnotes/end notes.

 

 

BIBLIOGRAPHY

1.         There must be a Bibliography at the end of the paper showing all resources consulted for the paper.

 

2.         As a guideline, there should be at least one resource for each page of the term paper.

 

3.         The bibliography must consist of a variety of resources at least equal to the number of pages, i.e. a 3 page paper would have at least 3 different resources.

 

4.         There can be no more than 1/3 of the resources from web pages; i.e. a 3-page paper would have no more than 1 internet references.


5. when giving a footnote of a web link, the title of the link must be included; ie, www.uvm.edu (Home Page for the University of Vermont)

 

MECHANICS

1.         The paper must be double-spaced, but no more than 5 lines per inch.

 

2.         Pages must be numbered at the bottom center of each page.

 

3.         The paper must be neatly presented (no smudge marks, coffee stains, tear marks, etc.)                              

 

4.        All four margins must be exactly 1”.

 

5.        Font size must be 12 point.

 

6.         Font style must be Arial or Times New Roman
