Introduction:

You have just read the book If you Give a Mouse a Cookie, by Laura Numeroff.  You liked it so much you want to find out about other books that are similar by Laura Numeroff.

The Task & Resources:

Make sure you have read the story, If you Give a Mouse a Cookie.  You are going to find out information about the author and other books written by her.  You are also going to find out facts about the animals that are used in her books.  Then we want you to pick your favorite animal that she hasn’t written about and create your own paragraph if you were to write a book like Laura Numeroff (i.e. you gave a cat your ice cream).

1)     Laura Numeroff is a well-known author that has written over 10 different children’s books.

a.      Look at her other books at: http://www.lauranumeroff.com/books

List seven different animals she uses:

2)     What animal is in the book Why A Disguise?

3)     How is If You Take a Mouse to School similar to If you Give a Mouse a Cookie?

How are they different?

4)     Can you name two titles that could actually happen in real life?

5)     How many cookies are on the cover of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie?

6) How many pancakes are on the cover of If You Give a Pig a Pancake?

6)     Now you can choose a picture from the books to color.  We will provide the pictures for you and you can decide how you want color it.  You can use the website http://www.lauranumeroff.com/ or the books provided to help you.

7)     Check out this website on animals:

8)     Choose two Laura Numeroff books and list two facts about each animal using the above websites

Animal:

          1)

          2)

          Animal:

                   1)

                   2)

9)     Now you are going to develop your own paragraph about an animal that Laura Numeroff did not use.  Go to the animal websites and chose an animal you would like to write about.  Then create a title with three sentences.

Here is an example-

If you Give a Monkey a Sundae

If you give a monkey a sundae, he is going to ask you for a spoon.  So you’ll give him a spoon but the monkey will still probably get himself dirty.  So he’ll ask for a napkin.

10) When finished with title and sentences, draw your storybook cover.

11)List your 2 favorite Laura Numeroff books.
