Time: 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Location: Davis Center Unity Lounge
Description: The UVM Queer People Of Color (QPOC) social/professional group holds a brown bag lunch every MONDAY from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm in the Diversity & Equity Unity Lounge, 3rd floor of the Davis Center.

QPOC is for students, faculty, and staff at the University of Vermont who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer people of color. This group serves as a way to openly engage in dialogues around the intersection of race and sexual identity. We have held film screenings, weekly lunches, dessert socials, potlucks, and informal gatherings/conversations. QPOC ultimately serves as an outlet for queer people of color to come together several times a semester and develop a strong community at UVM.

COM Health Equity Film Series: More Than a Month

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: Medical Education Center 200
Description: Should Black History Month be ended? That’s the question explored by African American filmmaker Shukree Hassan Tilghman as he embarks on a cross-country campaign to do just that. Both amusing and thought provoking, More Than a Month examines what the treatment of history tells us about race and power in contemporary America.

The film takes the form of a road trip that begins in Washington, D.C., crisscrosses the country during Black History Month 2010, and ends with an epilogue one year later. Combining cinema verité, man-on-the-street interviews, and inspired dramatizations, the film is a first-person narrative of the filmmaker’s quest to understand the implications of Black History Month.

Pride:
PRIDE is inspired by an extraordinary true story. It’s the summer of 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike, prompting a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers’ families. Initially rebuffed by the Union, the group identifies a tiny mining village in Wales and sets off to make their donation in person. As the strike drags on, the two groups discover that standing together makes for the strongest union of all. [Run time: 120 minutes]

QPOC lunch

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Location: Unity Lounge
Description: The UVM Queer People Of Color (QPOC) social/professional group holds a brown bag lunch every FRIDAY from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm in the Diversity & Equity Unity Lounge, 3rd floor of the Davis Center.

LGBTQIA people of color are welcome to help us create a safe, casual affinity space and bring visibility to the community.

Grab your lunch and join us for as much time as you can!

QPOC is for students, faculty, and staff at the University of Vermont who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer people of color. QPOC is supported by the LGBTQA Center at UVM and the ALANA Student Center, recognizing that it is crucial to address the intersections of identities that this group inherently possesses.

To have input and find out more about QPOC, you can join our listserv by contacting Catarina Campbell, ccampbe4@uvm.edu.
