A Class of 2005 alumnus, Evan was a former work-study student at the LGBTQA Center and rejoined the staff in the summer of 2012 after receiving his M.S. in Public Affairs & International Relations from UMass Boston. Prior to that, Evan spent several years as part of the Operations Management team at Verizon Wireless and wholly embraces all things mobile. His academic interests have always centered on social, economic, and political justice. His most recent research, writing, and conference presentations have focused on climate change migrants in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as neo-liberal economic policies in Haiti and how they negatively impact climate sustainability. He loves to travel—especially to visit his family in Oaxaca, Mexico, and spends most of his free time exploring Vermont’s outdoors with his dog Maya and rooting for his beloved Boston Bruins. He says his favorite thing about returning to UVM has been the warmth of both the staff/faculty and student communities, their overall commitment to social justice and diversity initiatives, and their shared excitement to collaborate.
