Comprehensive, thorough and sophisticated debate training can be achieved through distance learning. With twenty years of experience in global debate training, the World Debate Institute has developed a comprehensive distance learning curriculum for debate students, competitors and teachers. The University of Vermont is itself a leader in pioneering new distance learning techniques as part of its extensive rural outreach efforts.

The New York Times called the World Debate Institute "'Boot camp for the brain and for free speech as well."

An advanced Internet connection is not necessary for WDI Distance Learning programs, as materials are delivered to the student directly. Video materials come on PC/Mac compatible CD-ROMs. Lectures and sample debates are from World Debate Institute sessions from the last three years. Textbooks, evidence, and other instructional material is printed and shipped to students. College policy students receive a complete evidence set for their upcoming topic

WDI Distance Learning Programs can be started and completed at any time. Programs are updated each August with new content from that summer’s workshops.

This course will provide personalized instruction for those wishing to improve their communication skills in business and the professions to enrich career possibilities. The latest in new media will allow students to present themselves in various settings, engage in complex communication interactions and then receive feedback from the instructor on their performances and presentations.

The course will be delivered through video lectures, online exercises, critiqued video of student presentations, live video conferencing discussions, discussion boards, as well as assigned readings and written assignments.

Topics covered will include:

• nonverbal communication,
• strategic communication design,
• and application to written, spoken, interviewing, email and telephone communication.
