Programs We Advise

A large part of the work that the LCE staff does throughout the year is advise and support the following student-led service organizations, clubs, and programs:

Volunteers in Action (VIA)

A student volunteer club network of 17 programs that address a number of social issues in and around the local community. Issues range from hunger, to HIV/AIDS awareness, to working with students in local schools. Join a VIA program!

Alternative Break Programs

A student-run winter and spring break program based on the Break-Away model, which takes 150 UVM students to communities around the country and world on winter and/or spring break. On these trips students volunteer, learn about different cultures, and immerse themselves in the communities. Apply for a break program!

Alpha Phi Omega (APO)

A co-ed service fraternity that is connected to the national APO organization. Students focus on one-time service requests as well as established and on-going service projects with local non-profits. Join them!

Campus Kitchens Project (CKP)

This student organization is designed after the national DC Kitchen in Washington, D.C. This program salvages on-campus food, has students safely repackage the food into healthy and well-balanced meals, and then deliver them to local folks in need. Join the CKP crew!

Service TREK

An intense small group experience involving outdoor adventure, leadership development, and community service. It brings new students to Vermont before the Opening Weekend orientation, and builds strong bonds between group members. Visit the TREK Website!

UVM Service Network

A collaboration of all the service-related offices on campus, including the service-learning academic office, CUPS; Student and Community Relations; Career Services; and University Relations. The Service Network works to connect service opportunities for students across campus through classroom experience, internships, and neighborhood development. Learn More at UVM's Outreach page!
