The prototype for my new interactive work was completed In the summer of 2009 The Messengers developes the fans used in Garden Variety/Personal Fans
See video documentation of the fan as it receives and then displays a text message from a cell phone. After the text message is displayed it generates new sentences as a TWITTER mashup . The electronics were created by Mike Fortney from UVM's Instrument and Modeling Facility, and the software was developed by Wes Wright from Academic Computing and Jacob Beauregard, an undergrad student from Computer Science.
I presented a paper entitled Bird Watching: Telescopes and Satellites and the Metaphor of Transparency at ISEA in Ireland this summer.
In August 2009 I was awarded a Creative Grant from the Vermont Arts Council and NEA specifically for my artist's residency at The FairBanks Museum and Planetarium in the summer of 2010.
