Graduate Student Opportunities

Research opportunities leading to the Master of Science (M.S.) degree in the Department of Geology at the UVM focus on the formation and evolution of continental crust in different tectonic settings. Projects involve both field and laboratory components and may include combinations of structural geology, metamorphic petrology, and both high- and low-temperature geochronology.

Past projects include: The evolution of convergent, divergent and transform plate boundary systems at lower, middle and upper crustal levels. Kinematic and paleostress analyses of regional-scale shear zones and fault systems. Relationships between crustal melting, deformation and magma transfer processes. Processes affecting the exhumation and denudation of deep crustal rocks and the effects of changing plate motions on orogenic systems.
