Lectures:

Textbook:  Modern Quantum Mechanics, by J. J. Sakurai
Prerequisites:  Physics 273.
Topics: 
Mathematical and physical foundations of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics from the unifying point of view of Dirac. Symmetry operations and the algebraic structure of quantum mechanics are emphasized.
Grades:
Grades in this course will be assigned as follows:
  • 25% Homework
    • Homework problems at due the beginning of class.
    • The goal of homework is for you to convince me that you understand the material and have mastery of concepts and techniques.  Neatness counts.
    • Limit your collaboration with fellow students to general procedures about strategies for solving a problem, rather than the solution itself.
  • 25% Exams
    • There will be a mid-term exam.  
  • 25% Final Exam
    • The final exam for this class is scheduled for Monday, 7 May at 8:00 a.m.  The Registrar's Spring Exam (non-Hermitian, undiagonalizable) Matrix can be found here.
  • 25% Class Participation
    • While this is a lecture course, it is incumbent upon the students to read the material beforehand and to be prepared for class.  Homework solutions will be discussed during class and students will be called upon to solve problems in front of the class.
