The Sand Hill River is just south of Cartright, about 160 miles east of Goose Bay. | |
We flew out of Goose Bay in this single Otter |
On the return trip, we has a Twin Otter-- much more room. |
The view inside the single otter. All our gear is on the left.... human cargo on the right. |
Labrador from the air.... 160 miles of NOTHING... I loved it. |
Sand Hill River |
Gander River guide boat built by one of the guides (Jim). Incredible boat. |
Cabin Pool |
Falls Pool |
The drying shed... all gear was left here overnight with a small fire in the stove to dry. |
Doug and Jannette off to fish--- Russ is guiding. |
A nice salmon... this is Darren... the fish was caught by Dave Ripley. |
One of my fish jumping. Dave got this photo-- amazing luck. |
A small grilse... but REALLY fun, because I got him on a dry fly... you can see the white wulff in the mouth. |
Looking upstream. |
We were told we would get tired of catching big brook trout. I wouldn't believe it. But it was true. After a hundred or so, we were pretty much devoted exclusively to salmon. |
The guides treated the trout as a trash fish. Terry was heard to say "... Is that a fish or is it a trout"?"...after one of the group hooked a 16" brookie... They considered them "parr-eaters"... which is true enough... but EVERYONE liked to eat them now and then. Here is dinner. |
