2011-2012 Signature Award
Vermont Legislative Research Service (VLRS)
The Vermont Legislative Research Service (VLRS) was granted a Jeffords Signature Award to continue its mission to offer non-partisan policy research support for the VT State Legislature, while concurrently promoting students’ research skills.
The VLRS addresses both the need of Vermont legislators to gain greater access to information when creating public policy, and the need of college students to find a practical and constructive role in the political process. The VLRS posts completed policy research reports at www.uvm.edu/~vlrs.
The VLRS Signature Award includes funding of one Graduate Research Assistant to serve as Assistant Director of VLRS. Kate Fournier, a Master's student in Natural Resource, filled this position beginning in May 2010. UVM faculty member, Anthony Gierzynski, an Associate Professor of Political Science is the Director of the Vermont Legislative Research Service. Dr. Gierzynski supervises eight research teams of undergraduate students to produce policy research for several Vermont legislators and the Vermont Attorney General's Office.
