Instrumentation and Technical Services

The Instrumentation and Technical Services (ITS) department at the University of Vermont serves as the academic umbrella organization for two groups that provide technology services to the UVM community, healthcare providers, and Vermont emerging technology companies:

As a department within UVM’s Office of the Vice President for Research, ITS supports the University’s research, educational, and outreach missions. ITS oversees the activities of IMF and TSP while leveraging shared support personnel, executive staff, and facilities. With a mission to provide quality, cost-effective technology services, ITS departments provide custom instrumentation, comprehensive medical equipment management services, responsive technology support, and specialized education to clients.

UVM’s Technical Services Partnership (TSP) provides safe and cost-effective medical equipment management, service, education, and consulting to healthcare organizations. Since 1973, TSP has supported Fletcher Allen Health Care, regional community hospitals, and private practitioners by supplying full lifecycle management of advanced medical technology - planning, assessment, acquisition, quality assurance, safety, education, and maintenance. TSP technical staff directly supports medical devices thus maintaining equipment availability, improving patient safety, and containing costs - enabling healthcare providers to focus on the patient.

For over forty years, the Instrumentation & Model Facility (IMF) has been the University of Vermont's centralized source for custom instrumentation design, development and fabrication, and 3D modeling. We provide creative, high quality, cost effective, and timely services and products for researchers, students, educators, state government, healthcare institutions, and innovative companies enhancing Vermont’s economic future. IMF engineers employ technical expertise in mechanical, materials, electrical, optical, and programming disciplines to solve application problems for customers.
