EMS Courses
IREMS offers two EMT-level courses:

EMT-Basic: USDOT 120-hour curriculum (including 10 hours of emergency department clinical observation). At the conclusion of this course, successful participants may sit for certification in the state of Vermont. The course is almost equally divided between classroom lecture time and skills practice. Skills gained in the class include oxygen administration, spinal immobilization, patient assessment, automated external cardiac defibrillation (AED), and airway management.
This course coordinated by Patrick Malone.

EMT-Intermediate: USDOT 80-hour curriculum (including 10 hours of emergency department or operating room clinical observation). The EMT-I course builds on the assessment skills of the EMT-B and teaches new interventions such as intravenous (IV) skills, fluid resuscitation, and delivery of several IV medications such as dextrose and naloxone. Upon successful completion of the course, students may sit for certification in the state of Vermont.
This course is coordinated by Greg Thweatt.
