Faculty & Staff Procedures and Guidelines
Upon request, Interpreter Services will provide interpreters for meetings, plays, presentations, or other functions sponsored by the University. Interpreter request forms should be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the event. Request forms are available at our website: Interpreter Request Form and should be filled out as completely as possible to ensure that the appropriate interpreters will be provided. Requests received less than one week before the scheduled event will be honored, if possible.
Cancellation of Interpreters/No Shows
Interpreters will wait 15 minutes for every hour of an assignment up to a 45 minute maximum. (Example: If an event is 1 hour, the interpreter will wait for 15 minutes. If the event is three hours, then the interpreter will wait 45 minutes.
In the event that an interpreter fails to show up for an assignment, the individual should contact email@example.com as soon as possible.
Team interpreters are used for assignments 1.5 hours or longer, in situations when an interpreter works for 2 or more consecutive one-hour assignments, or as deemed necessary by the working conditions.
Individuals may use the Video Phone (Sorenson VRS VP-200) in the Intrepreter Services Office, Living/Learning Building, Room A134 during normal hours (8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday) in order to communicate with campus offices and departments.
While Interpreter Services will consider individual preferences in the assignment of interpreters, it reserves the right to make all interpreter assignments. These assignments are in Interpreter Service's sole discretion and may be based upon many factors which may include, but may not be limited to, availability, certification, qualification and the appropriateness of the request based on actual or perceived conflicts of interest.
All interpreters working at UVM are expected to abide by the RID Code of Professional Conduct. UVM’s Interpreter Services wants to provide the best possible service to all individuals receiving interpreting. If you have feedback about an interpreter or our services, please complete the Interpreter Services Feedback Form. The Director of Academic Support Programs will review the feedback and respond back to you within two weeks, as necessary.
