Simple Machines
Webquest
Introduction:
A large
tree has fallen just outside Mr. Bartlett's
house. He is unable to move it by himself. He calls you for
help and you rush right over. Mr. Bartlett has all the tools
needed to make each of the six simple machines. However, Mr.
Bartlett forgets what the simple machines are, what they are made of
and how to use them.
Challenge:
Using the internet, and your own knowledge help Mr.
Bartlett. You must tell him what the six simple machines are, how
to make them and how to use them. Once you have figured that out
you will need to make a plan to remove the tree. This tree is so
large that no one simple machine can do the work alone. You must
break the tree into atleast three sections using only the simple
machines and then remove each part using atleast three different simple
machines. Once you have figured out a plan, find a way to show
your plan to Mr. Bartlett.

The
Report: Once you have figured out your plan you must show
your plan to Mr. Bartlett. You may do a labeled diagram of your
solution, or you may write a report
describing it. You may also
write a skit about it, or even a poster telling your classmates about
your challenge and solution. You can create any type of report,
even if it's not listed here. Just make sure your report has
1. The tree split into
atleast three pieces
2. Atleast three
different simple machines removing the tree from
Mr. Bartlett's property
3. Explanation of the
simple machines used (how they are made and
how you used it)
4. Something to do with
the wood once it is removed from Mr.
Bartlett's property, this can be anything you wish as long as it is
safe. Be creative here!
