a   Your principal, Mr. Davis, has been doing some thinking about the school's science program for third graders. He must choose one thing in science to get rid of. After some thinking, he has decided that the simple machines unit must go. Mr. Davis does not think that it is as important as other science areas and that students do not benefit from learning about simple machines. The third grade teachers have told you about this problem and want your help in convincing Mr. Davis to keep simple machines in the science program. It is up to you smart third graders to do some research on simple machines and find out how they do affect our everyday living.

Your challenge is to go through the links below and begin your research on simple machines. I will provide you with questions to answer as you journey through this Webquest. These questions and answers will help you in writing your letter to the principal about why it is important to learn about simple machines and how they are used in our everyday lives. Have fun with this challenge! You are brilliant third graders and I know you will excel in convincing the principal!

Use the links below to find information for your research. The questions and information that I would like to find are:
1.    How many simple machines are there? Can you name all of them?
2.    How do three of the simple machines work?
3.    Give one example for each simple machine
4.    How do simple machines connect to your life? Identify 5 ways that you use simple machines in your everyday life (home, school, recess, etc.)
•    These questions are written out on the “Simple Machines Exploration Sheet” that you were provided with.
