       ... A mysterious WEBQUEST for Mr. Galati's 5th Grade!

Hello Expert Crime Scene Investigators!
Mr. Bean needs your help! He found out that your class knows the most about solving mysteries judging from all of the CSI work that is being done. He asked me to call the experts in to help him narrow down his suspects.

Mr. Bean's Testimonial:
"I came back at 4:00 pm from a hard day at work to find my front door unlocked. I walked in and noticed my autographed Babe Ruth baseball was missing from it's case. I don't know who would have done this, but I'm going to get to the bottom of it!"

YOUR CHALLENGE:
Mr. Bean is depending on you to use your detective work, using what you know about the Scientific Method, solving mysteries and analiyzing clues to pick who YOU think stole the baseball. You will look at the pictures below of the four suspects, read their descriptions and what they had to say about what they were doing at the time of the robbery. You will then make a confident decision about who you think was most likely to have comitted the crime. Your next steps are to write a few paragraphs based on the evidence of why you chose that person. Also give some reasons why you did not choose the other two suspects.

Think carefully because all of the evidence you submit will go straight to the Colchester Police Department.

suspect1

SUSPECT #1-  Mr. Gove

This is Mr. Bean's next door neighbor. He often dogsits for when Mr. Bean goes on vacation.  He was said to have been in his house at the time of the Robbery. When we asked him what he was doing, he replied with:

"I was reading a book in my living room."

When Police asked him what he was reading, he mentioned it being a sports book.

" I love reading sports stories and watching them on TV. I have never played sports though, because I am not very athletic."

suspect2

SUSPECT #2: Ms. Ray

This is one of the women Mr. Bean works with. She has been to Mr. Bean's house for company meetings and parties. She was absent from work the day of the robbery. She frequently talked to Mr. Bean about his baseball collections, saying that her son would really like to come see them sometime. She constantly asked Mr. Bean if he had any new baseballs to add to his collection. On the day of the robbery, Ms. Ray stated that:

" I was home with my son who was sick. That is why I was not at work.  I stopped to see if Mr. Bean was at home because I wanted to see if I missed anything at work.  I pulled into the driveway, he was not there so I just drove away. That's why someone may have seen me at the house. But I would never take a baseball...I swear."

suspect 3

SUSPECT #3: Mr. Blue

This is an older man who live on Mr. Bean's street. He and Mr. Bean have had some arguements lately. Mr. Bean does not like people walking on his lawn, and Mr. Blue (suspect #3) frequently takes his cat for walks and he steps on Mr. Bean's lawn.  They have no always been friendly to each other. When Police asked where Mr. Blue was during this time, he said he was out on a walk with his pet cat around the neighborhood

Suspect 3:  Mr. Blue's shoe which he was wearing on the day of the robbery. These are large brown shoes.

Now that you know as much as the Police could find out, your job is to make a hypothesis about who you think is guilty, and give reasons why the other two may not be guilty.

Mr. Bean thanks you for your help!!
