Imagine: Mrs. October, your next door neighbor, comes to visit you one day. During this visit Mrs. October says that she needs to ask you a very large favor. She assures you that she will pay you well by showing you her famous pumpkin pie.

As your mouth begins to water you accept and ask what she needs. "Well," says Mrs. October. "I love making my famous pumpkin pie, but the store I used to buy pumpkins from no longer sells them. I do not know what to do. So, I was hoping that you could help me plant and raise a garden full of pumpkins." Mrs. October goes on to tell you that she will be so upset when she has to tell all her friends next year that she does not have pie for them. She then says "Will you PLEASE help me?" and you say, "Of course Mrs. October I would love to help you."  She says, "Great!" Then she tells you that your job is to find out how to grow pumpkins.

Your Challenge:
To help Mrs. October you need to find out:

  • When do you plant pumpkin seeds?
  • How do you take care of the plants?
  • What does harvest mean?
  • When do you know the pumpkin is ripe enough to be picked?
Mrs. October also wants you to find:
  • How heavy was the world's largest pumpkin and who grew it?
  • 3 interesting facts that you think may be helpful in growing the garden.
