2nd Grade Web Quest on

PUMPKINS!

It is the night before Halloween and you are carving your pumpkin with your family.  When your pumpkin is cut open, you see there is gooey gunk inside.  Pumpkin pie is one of your favorite foods, so you take a big bite of the gunk and…YUCK!!! It tastes nothing like your favorite dessert.  You are very confused and begin asking yourself many questions about what makes a pumpkin pie so tasty and how people thought to use it as a food in the first place.

Your Challenge:  Using the Internet, try to find information regarding pumpkins.  Keep the following questions in mind.

-       Is a pumpkin a fruit or a vegetable?

-       What are pumpkins made of?

-       Is there any part of a pumpkin that cannot be eaten?

-       How do pumpkins grow?

-       Who first used pumpkins as a source of food?

-       When should pumpkins be planted?

-       Can pumpkins be found all over the world?

-       Why do we carve Jack-O-Lanterns?

-       How big can a pumpkin be?

-       What did Native Americans use pumpkin seeds for?

-       Where did pumpkins originate (come from)?
