A Trip to The Moon!

Grade Level: 2nd

Ø  Have you ever wondered what the moon really looked like?

Ø  Have you ever wondered what the temperature was like on the moon?

Ø  Have you ever wondered what it smelled like on the moon?

If you have wondered about these questions, don’t worry because you are not alone! Many and many of people have wondered about the moon and wanted to find the exact same answers to the questions above. People have wondered so much and so hard that they actually took trips to the moon. It takes 225,745 miles to get to the moon so this is not an easy journey. Beginning in 1958, people, called astronauts, began taking trips to the moon. Many journeys to the moon were unsuccessful until, July 20, 1969 when Apollo 11 landed on the moon. One of the astronauts aboard the space shuttle took the first step onto the moon. His name was Neil Armstrong.

The Challenge

Your challenge is to flashback in time to July 20, 1969. Close your eyes and begin to imagine that you are Neil Armstrong and your space shuttle just landed on the moon. You remember how nervous you were, but you were also so thrilled. You found the courage to be the first astronaut to step out of the shuttle and onto the moon. You are asked to observe and remember every single detail that you noticed about the moon because when you get back to Earth, you are going to have to tell your story. Your task is to write down everything you smell, everything you feel and hear, and everything that you see while on the moon! Take a piece of paper out and begin your journey. GOOD LUCK!

The Journey

It would be very helpful while writing down your observations to go to some of these websites that I have found for you. Just click on the link and it will take you to the website. At each website you will find lots of information, fun facts, and cool pictures of the moon!
