Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee - IACUC


Required Vertebrate Animal Training

Appropriate level training must be complete for all key personnel prior to protocol or amendment approval release.  The various training requirements are listed below with more detail in our Research Manual.  The training modules are developed by the Office of Animal Care Management.  The link to their website is below.

General Training

  • A formal program for training and education about the use of animals in research is established along the guidelines of the Guide, OLAW Assurance, USDA Regulations & the “Education and Training in the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals” National Research Council publication.  

  • General training is required for all persons working with animals prior to using animals and specific training would be necessary as applicable to the project. 

Specific Training

  • Working With Hazardous Agents in Animals
  • Personnel Performing Surgery
  • Personnel Performing Anesthesia
  • Personnel Carrying Out Euthanasia Procedures
  • Continuing Training
