Elmwood Avenue - Old North End, Burlington, Vermont

Elmwood Avenue

The above photographs show Elmwood Avenue as seen today (left), and Elmwood Cemetery, which borders this area of the Old North End on the south.

Elmwood Avenue runs north-south from the intersection of Spring and Archibald Streets, and runs south all the way to the main business district of downtown Burlington.  The Old North End section of Elmwood Avenue is bounded by Elmwood Cemetery, the second oldest cemetery in Burlington, and the H. O. Wheeler School, constructed in 1904-1905.  At Elmwood Cemetery, Elmwood Avenue meets North Street, which is a National Historic District.  Elmwood Avenue was known for some years as Locust Street.[1]
