Sherman Street

Sherman Street was originally known as Smith's Lane after the owner of the property on the north-east corner of Park Street, known then as Water Street.  This corner has changed names many times: Smith's Lane and Water Street, Smith's Lane and Chestnut Street, Smith's Lane and North Battery Street, and Sherman Street and North Battery Street.

These properties were challenging to track due to the changes to the addresses over the years, but with the use of the various maps relating to the period when the addresses changed the previous addresses were connected to the current structures.  These addresses appear below the contemporary address.
