142/144 North Champlain Street

This structure is listed on the historic survey as being built in 1872, and became a grocery, meat market and residence for Louis Bouregard [1] by 1875.  The structure is a west facing, two and one-half story, gable front facade two by four bays wide, with a pair of plate glass windows flanking the main entrance, as well as, an offset front entrance and a side entrance on North Street.  The building has survived some changes to the exterior including windows and facade treatment, as well as additions of an overhanging porch near the rear of the south facade.

The property is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places as #41 of the North Street Historic District.  The owner of the property was listed as L. Beauregard [2] .  Louis Beauregard was a grocer whose home and shop were located at this corner from 1869 to the early 1890s [3] .  In 1890 the property is listed as owned by Mrs. M. Beauregard [4] , probably the widow of Louis.  The property became a shoe store under proprietor C. D. Vincent, whose name continued to be associated with it until the 1930s [5] .  The property was also an apartment building after the C. D. Vincent moved elsewhere.  By 1952 the structure was home to a small store and beauty shop owned by Walter Rand and Bertha L. Wimble, respectively.
