56 Pomeroy Street

This small eaves front, gable roofed, two-and-a-half story timber framed house is located on Pomeroy Street. According to the 1869 Beers Atlas Map, the street was undeveloped, except for number 56.  Its footprint has changed little since 1890, when a one-story room was added to the eastern elevation. (1) Alonzo.E. Baker and his wife were the first owners of 56 Pomeroy Street. (2) Alonzo and his son, Sidney worked as paperhangers and carpenters.  Their residency ended early in the 20th century when Charles A. Francis moved in prior to 1920. (3) He owned and operated a store at 141 North Willard Street with his wife Mary Francis.  He died before 1940 and she remained in the house until 1976. (4)
