445 South Union Street

This small Greek Revival was constructed for P. Cosgrove. Patrick Cosgrove purchased the property in 1844.(1) However, no building appeared at this location on the 1857 map. It is thought that sometime between 1857 and 1869 this house was built. Patrick Cosgrove was a tailor with the firm of Bourke & Cosgrove. By the 1870's Cosgrove was self-employed with a tailor shop on Church Street. Cosgrove continued customizing Burlingtonian's clothing well into the 1890's. Patrick J. Cosgrove who lived at 445 South Union was a policeman as early as 1895. By 1910 Cosgrove was Deputy Chief of Police. The last listing for Patrick, or any other Cosgroves, at this address is 1940.(2)
