476 St. Paul Street

This duplex, and the one next door at 484 St. Paul Street were built by Hiram S. White as rental units.(1) H. S. White lived on Elm Street between Maple and Adams Streets. In 1865 he is listed as a grocer in the firm of H. S. White & Sons. Later directories list White as a farmer. Since this house has a long history as a rental property, its occupancy has been hard to trace. However, some of the residents of 476 St. Paul have been associated with the Rutland Railroad, the Burlington Daily News, and The Soil Conservation Service.(2)
