194 South Prospect Street

The brick structure located at 194 South Prospect Street was built in 1861 for Nathan Strong Hill. Hill was treasurer of the University of Vermont from 1855 until 1881. Corrispondence of the time states the the cost of the home was almost $7,000. Hill died in 1881, and his wife remained in the home until her own demise in 1896.(1) From 1899 to 1903 the ocupant of the home is Frederick Gay, who is involved in the woolen industry. From as early as 1910 until 1968 the home is occupied by Foster Clement and his family.(2) The building is now owned by the University of Vermont and serves as the Admissions Office.
