University of Vermont Gilman Scholars

Gilman Scholars: 2012-2013

Ryan Britch '14, a double sociology and history major from Swanton, Vt., received an award. Britch will spend the summer of studying in Nepal.

Ying Lin '14, a professional nursing major, received a summer Gilman award. She will spend three months studying global health in China.

Addie Halligan '14, an environmental studies and green design major Portland, Me., received an award. Halligan will spend the spring of studying in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Achaleke Taku '14, a double economics and film studies major, received an award to study in Belgium during the spring semester. Originally from Yaounde, Cameroon, Taku came to UVM from Tuscon, Ariz.

Corey Tondreau '14 was awarded a Gilman to study in Madagascar for the spring 2013 semester. Tondreau is a wildlife biology major from Rochester, N.H.

Gilman Scholars: 2011-2012

Hannah Doughty '13 was awarded a Gilman to study in Russia for the fall 2012 semester. Doughty, a double anthropology and Russian major, is from Rochester, Vt. and will be spending the semester in St. Petersburg. Earlier this year she was also awarded a Critical Language Scholarship, which is a prestigious award to study at a U.S. State Department-funded language institute in Russia.

Madeleine Gibson '13 was awarded a Gilman to study in Finland for the fall 2012 semester. Gibson is an environmental studies major from Kingston, R.I.

Jamie Sharken '14 was awarded a Gilman to study in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the fall 2012 semester. Sharken is from Amherst, Mass.

Amanda St. Hilaire '14, an environmental studies major from Cumberland, Me., also received an award. St. Hilaire will spend the fall of 2012 studying in Scotland.

Gilman Scholars: 2010-2011

Caitlin Campbell '12 was awarded a Gilman to study in Namibia for the spring 2011 semester. Campbell is an Environmental Science major in the College of Arts and Sciences and is an Honors College student. Campbell is a Groton, Mass. native.

Anna Carragee '12 was awarded a Gilman to study in New Zealand for the spring 2011 semester. Carragee is a Natural Resources major in the Rubenstein School of the Environment & Natural Resources and is from St. Paul, Minn.

Tiana Gray '12 was awarded a Gilman to study in St. Petersburg, Russia for the spring 2011 semester. Hartin is a Russian major in the College of Arts & Sciences, and is from Derby Line, Vt.

Rose Long '12 was awarded a Gilman to study abroad in France. Long is a Mechanical Engineering major in the College of Engineering & Mathematics, and is from Sutton, Vt.

Jessica Salameh '12 was awarded a Gilman to study abroad in Jordan during the spring 2011 semester. Salameh is a Political Science major in the College of Arts & Sciences, and is from Barre, Vt.

Gilman Scholars: 2009-2010

William Berrey III '12 was awarded a Gilman to study with the UVM Asian Studies Program at Yunnan University in China for the fall 2010 semester. Berrey is a double international relations and East Asia studies major. Berrey is a Desloge, Missouri native.

Joshua Carrera '12 was awarded a Gilman to study in Ecuador for the fall 2010 semester. Carrera is a natural resources major in the Rubenstein School of the Environment and Natural Resources. Carrera is from Ridgewood, New York.

Kathleen Hartin '12 was awarded a Gilman to study in Tanzania for the fall 2010 semester. Hartin is an Honors College student and environmental studies major in the College of Arts & Sciences. Hartin is from Bloomington, Indiana.

William Liew '12 was awarded a Gilman to study abroad at Kansai Gaidai University in Japan during the 2010-2011 academic year. Liew is an Honors College student and an Asian Studies major in the College of Arts & Sciences. Liew is from Rutland, Vermont.

Kellie McMahon '12 was awarded a Gilman to study abroad in Tanzania during the fall 2010 semester. McMahon is an environmental science major in the Rubenstein School of the Environment and Natural Resources. McMahon is from Atkinson, New Hampshire.

Cindy Yee '12 was awarded a Gilman to study abroad with the UVM Asian Studies Program at Yunnan University in China. Yee is an Honors College student and a double political science and Chinese major. Yee is from Brooklyn, New York.
