Fall 2014 Peer Leader Program
The Peer Leader Program is an initiative designed as a resource for first year students as they transition to college life in the Honors College. Incoming students are grouped with an upper-class Honors College student who serves as the Peer Leader- a mentor sharing experience, listening, giving advice, and ultimately being the resource you need during your first semester here.
Throughout the year various programs and events are held to meet the unique needs of first year students in a new environment. We host these events to encourage our students to forge meaningful connections and build lasting memories together. A few highlights from this past year include a trip to Shelburne Farms for apple picking, Jeopardy games, a Super Bowl Party and plenty of arts and crafts nights! You will receive a letter from your Peer Leader in early August, and will meet them in person at the First Year Welcome Event on Saturday, August 23rd.
For students interested in becoming a Peer Leader for Fall 2015, applications will be available in December 2014.
Hi! My name is Hunter Colvin. I am from North Hero Vermont and am a History major with an English minor, although I am considering a double major. I love reading, traveling, playing soccer, and anything sparkly.I am also an avid Netflix watcher, so if you need to find a good show, I'm your gal. At UVM, I am a member of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, an intramural sports player, and the Copy Chief for the Vermont Cynic, UVM's on-campus newspaper. If you have any questions, comments, or just want to talk, feel free to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org or through Facebook. I'd love to help in any way I can!
Hi! My name is Allison Giroux and I am a junior neuroscience major with a psychology minor. I am from the nearby town of Hinesburg, VT, so I know - and love - the area! On campus, I am a member of a co-ed service fraternity called Alpha Phi Omega, and I am involved with the tobacco free initiative! I also work in a research lab and volunteer at the hospital. In my free time I love to downhill ski, do any sort of water sport, cook, watch movies, go on spontaneous adventures, attend UVM sporting events, and laugh (a lot!). I look forward to meeting all of you! If you have any questions, want to introduce yourself, or just want to say hi, feel free to send me an email at email@example.com or find me on Facebook.
Hello there! My name is SaraJane Harrington, I'm an Animal Science major with a Pre-Vet concentration and I hope to one day become a small animal veterinarian (although Vermont just might make me fall in love with cows). I am from Wayne, Pennsylvania which is about 10 mins outside of Philadelphia so I'm passionately in love with Philly and all it's sports teams. I'm a cheerleader for UVM so I get to cheer for our incredible men's and women's basketball teams every home game. I'm really passionate about service so on campus I'm an active member of FeelGood, which is a club that sells grilled cheese in the Davis Center tunnel and donates all proceeds to the Hunger Project to end world hunger by 2030. This summer I taught kids ages 3-12 swim lessons at a summer camp, worked at a small animal vet clinic, volunteered at Firefly Music Fest, and binge watched every episode of Game of Thrones and Orange is the New Black. I'm so excited to meet the HCOL class of 2018! Feel free to email at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me on Facebook.

Hello! My name is Amanda Meltsner, I'm a sophomore majoring in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies with an English minor, and I am (very proudly) from the great city-not-state of Washington, DC. When I wasn't in classes, I spent most of my time during my first year at UVM with the UVM Men's Crew team, where I'm a coxswain, as well as rowing a double with one of the other coxswains. We won a silver medal at the American Collegiate Rowing Association nationals in May! When I'm not doing crew related activities, you can find me tutoring in the Writing Center, writing for the Water Tower and an online magazine aimed at LGBTQ+ young adults, knitting (did you know the Honors College has its own knitting group?), or hanging at one of Burlington's many great music venues (I'm a sucker for bands I've never heard of). I'm looking forward to meeting all of you, and feel free to say hi if you see me- I'm the one with the crazy colored mohawk. If face-to-face talking isn't your thing, you can email me at email@example.com .
