Peer Leader Program
The Peer Leader Program is an initiative designed as a resource for first year students as they transition to college life in the Honors College. Incoming students are grouped with an upper-class Honors College student who serves as the Peer Leader- a mentor sharing experience, listening, giving advice, and ultimately being the resource you need during your first semester here.
Throughout the year various programs and events are held to meet the unique needs of first year students in a new environment. We host these events to encourage our students to forge meaningful connections and build lasting memories together. A few highlights from this past year include a trip to Shelburne Farms for apple picking, Jeopardy games, a Super Bowl Party and plenty of arts and crafts nights! You will receive a letter from your Peer Leader in early August, and will meet them in person at the First Year Welcome Event at the Fleming Museum on Saturday, August 25th.
For students interested in becoming a Peer Leader for Fall 2013, applications will be available in December 2012.
Hi, my name is Juliana Morris, but feel free to call me Julie! I am from Kingston, Massachusetts. I am a junior majoring in mathematics with a statistics concentration and minoring in business administration. I have been involved with Habitat for Humanity, Pets Helping People, and last year I lived in the Health and Wellness Residential Learning Community. Last winter break I went on a faculty-led study abroad trip to Ecuador and now I cannot wait to start traveling again. In the spring semester I plan to study abroad in Florence, Italy. I also love to play intramural sports like soccer and broomball. In my free time I enjoy running, hanging out with my friends, eating, and exploring Burlington! If you have any questions feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I'm a sophomore at UVM from Falmouth, Maine. I'm currently a biology major and statistics minor within the College of Arts and Sciences. Outside of schoolwork, I was the President of the University Heights North (UHN) Hall Council, played in intramural sports, and was in the Pre-Med club. This summer, I'll be a camp counselor for a camp in my hometown and soaking up the sun on the ocean. In my spare time, I love to ski, play tennis, run, and hang out near the lake! My favorite thing about Burlington is all of the mountains; it's amazing going for hikes and being able to go from class to the slopes in under an hour. Feel free to e-mail me or just say hi at email@example.com!
Hello! My name is John Hart and I am from Irvine, California. I am a junior pursuing a History and Political Science double major. I love sports; I played football and baseball in high school, but since coming east I have been getting into more outdoorsy things like hiking, canoeing, rock or ice climbing, kayaking, etc. Burlington is a great place for any and all of those pursuits. Here at the groovy UV, I am a writing tutor and an ROTC cadet. I will be living in the Redstone Lofts this year, but my door is always open. I am always happy to sit around and talk, so stop by any time! Or you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hi! My name is Emily Howe and I am from Barrington, Rhode Island. I am a sophomore pursuing a dual degree in Secondary Education and History. In addition to being a Peer Leader in the Honors College, I will also be working as a Writing Tutor in the Learning Co-Op. On campus, I'm involved in Colleges Against Cancer, which organizes the UVM Relay For Life. I'm also a member of a co-ed service fraternity called Alpha Phi Omega - if you're interested in community service, it's definitely worth checking out! I love cooking, baking, Zumba, anything Harry Potter related, playing guitar, reading, watching movies with friends, and finding cool new places to hang out downtown! I love to hear people's stories and I look forward to getting to know you this fall. If you have any questions or just want to chat, feel free to Facebook me or email me at email@example.com! Have a great summer!
Hi, my name is Kara Freeman and I am a sophomore from Reading, Massachusetts. I am majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and I one day hope to become a speech pathologist. My ultimate goal is to work with autistic children, or maybe brain damaged and stroke victims. Outside of class, I am a member of the Alpha Phi Omega co-ed, non-Greek service fraternity and I love going to spinning, Zumba, and yoga classes here at UVM. I love dogs and the beach, and I enjoy baking, running, skiing, being outside, hanging out downtown, and most of all laughing. I am incredibly happy here at UVM and I look forward to meeting you all! If you have any questions or just want to say hi, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hello! My name is Krystina. I'm a sophomore with a major in molecular genetics in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. I'm from a small town in northern New Jersey where I live on a lake. Because of this I love all things water related and am a member of the club swim team here at UVM. I chose to come to UVM because I really loved the friendly, laid-back atmosphere when I visited. UVM also has great research opportunities and a hospital on campus, which is a great resource for the major I'm in. When I'm not swimming or studying, I love cooking, watching movies with friends, and skiing as often as possible. My favorite thing about UVM aside from its close proximity to some great slopes is the Ben and Jerry's in the Davis Center where I make sure to get ice cream at least once a week. Feel free to email me at email@example.com.

Hi all! My name is Luke Dorfman and I'm a sophomore at UVM. I grew up in Shelburne, Vermont - about a 15-minute drive from campus - so I know all about the opportunities that the greater Burlington area has to offer. I absolutely love Vermont: its beautiful setting, its kindhearted people, and its quirky atmosphere. I'm pursuing a double major in Anthropology and English with a minor in Math. Outside of the classroom, I'm actively involved with Amnesty International, the Outing Club, and the intramural sports programs. I tutor local high school students and work as a substitute teacher at my old high school. I'm a huge soccer fan - both player and spectator - and also love running, basketball, and biking. My plans this summer include travel to Nepal to study a remote region of the Himalayas called Mustang. If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to say hi, feel free to email me at Luke.Dorfman@uvm.edu. I look forward to meeting you all soon!
My name is Kristen Hamilton, and I am from Gorham, Maine. I am a Political Science major with a minor in English. I am a member of Delta Delta Delta and have thoroughly enjoyed our philanthropic endeavors, such as raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Relay for Life. I am also a member of the Political Science Honors Program. Throughout my senior year, I will be writing my thesis on the controversy over the purpose of civic education in a democratic society. I have a passion for traveling, and am especially in love with Ireland, as I studied abroad there for a semester in 2011. I can frequently be found glued to a big comfy chair and my laptop at Henderson's in the Davis Center. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org - feel free to contact me with any questions!
Hi all! My name is Marissa Bucci and I am a sophomore from Fairfield, Connecticut. I am majoring in Political Science and minoring in English. Hey there! My name is Alan and I'm proud to be from Jersey. Unfortunately, I'm not from the Jersey Shore. I'm currently a sophomore majoring in Biochemistry in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. I'm an Outing Club Leader, and love to hike, ski, rock climb, and do anything else adventurous! I'm also involved in ALANA Gear, which is a club that helps ALANA students and others with limited prior exposure and knowledge gain outdoor experience. I had an awesome time this past year at UVM and can't wait to get back to Burlington. It will be exciting to meet new people and to be a part of the Peer Leader program. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or find me on Facebook!
My name is Mike Wood and I'm a junior at UVM with a double major in Sociology and French. I originally hail from the speck-on-the-map town of Andover, CT. Throughout high school, I was part of a community-building youth group that had a lot of the same aims that the Peer Leader program has. I really like playing and listening to music. I play drums and guitar and do a little singing and I like rock, rap, reggae, jazz, acoustic, folk, and pretty much anything that has a creative sound. I also love being in nature, taking bike rides, chilling out by streams and lakes, and so on. I think that learning about other people's lives and cultures is really interesting, so be sure to talk to me about that. I can't wait to meet all of you and I hope you have a wonderful experience at UVM. Contact me at: Michael.Wood.email@example.com.
