UVM's 2011 Student Research Conference Draws Record Participants

On April 26, 2011 the University of Vermont held its annual Student Research Conference (SRC) at the Davis Center. Co-sponsored by the Honors College, the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Graduate College, the SRC showcases the scholarly activity of undergraduate, graduate and medical students across campus. Setting the tone for this occasion, President Daniel Fogel and Honors College Dean Abu Rizvi provided keynote addresses for the morning and afternoon sessions which emphasized the importance of research and creative endeavors for the life of the University.

This year's event saw a record number of participants and attendees. Two hundred and thirty-eight students, mentored by 150 UVM faculty, presented their research and creative projects. Half the participants were undergraduates who represented each college on campus.

The Grand Maple Ballroom was the backdrop for two separate poster sessions where students displayed images and results from their research projects and fielded questions from a roving crowd of interested friends, faculty, staff, parents, and the general public. Oral presentations gave students the opportunity to offer their results in a 15-minute format.

All students working on a research or creative project with a UVM faculty member are eligible to present some aspect of their research at this forum. Research and creative projects at any stage of completion are welcome. The event also serves as a resource for students who are not yet involved with research but wish to learn about how to engage in these scholarly pursuits.

Also, at the end of the conference, the Office of Undergraduate Research Announced the 2011 Summer Internship and the 2011 Public Research and Civic Endeavors Scholarship winners. For a full list of award winners, see here.
