Fall 2010 New Faces in the Honors College
Ann Kroll Lerner - Undergraduate Research Coordinator
Ann Kroll Lerner joined the Honors College as the Undergraduate Research Coordinator in July. Ann comes to UVM from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan where she was a Visiting Assistant Professor and supervised the Anthropology Laboratory. She completed her undergraduate degree at Grand Valley and her MA and PhD at Michigan State University. She brings a to her UVM position a wealth of experience in teaching, mentoring, and facilitating interactions between faculty and students. She lives in Jericho with her husband, two sons and black lab.
We are very pleased to welcome Ann to the Honors College staff. Her office is in 017B in UHN.
Patrick Hale - University Heights North Resident Director
Patrick grew up in the greater Chicago area, the youngest of four siblings (two sisters and one brother). He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with a degree in sociology and gender and women's studies. He then moved on to Indiana University to pursue a degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs. His hobbies include writing, running, listening to music, watching movies and documentaries, shopping, traveling and tennis.
As residence director, Patrick co-supervises resident advisors and offers leadership support in community development, programming and promoting health and safety with residents of UHN. He is plans to pursue a doctoral degree in educational leadership in higher education in the next five years, with a long range plan to work as a Dean of Students in a public college/university.
Viraj Patel - University Heights North Assistant Resident Director
Viraj Patel is the new Assistant Resident Director for UHN this fall. She works with our new Resident Director to build an inclusive and supportive community in UHN.
Viraj comes to UVM from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she got her BA in English with a minor in Asian American Studies. She loves learning about the intersection of social media, politics and higher education. Viraj ultimately hopes to pursue a doctoral degree, and is a current graduate student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Program with plans to graduate in May 2011.
Maddy Brumberg - Honors College Student Mentor
Madeline "Maddy" Brumberg is a junior Environmental Science major in the Rubenstein School. After studying abroad in Belize last spring and spending the summer in Burlington, Maddy returned to the Honors College as one of the two First Year Mentors. She thoroughly enjoys hiking, horseback riding, pottery, and cooking in her apartment off campus. She's looking forward to putting together programs like "Back to Kindergarten" which promises lots of coloring, play dough and finger painting, as well as a clothing swap for UHN in spring 2011.Visit Maddy in the UHN Living Room from 12:15 to 2:15pm on Thursdays!
Federica Wade - Honors College Student Mentor
Federica "Fed" Wade is a sophomore Environmental Studies major in the Rubenstein school. Fed is no stranger to student leadership; she was a UHN Eco Rep last year as well as a member of the award-winning UHN Hall Council. She is hoping to help first year Honors College students learn to de-stress this year, from healthy eating, to study skills, to how to make a stress ball. Fed speaks fluent Italian (molto bene!) and loves fresh, locally grown food.
Visit Fed in the UHN Living Room from 4 to 6pm on Tuesdays!
