HP 203 provides
an overview of architectural conservation for students with a
wide variety of backgrounds and interests by examining the physical
properties of historic building materials, deterioration mechanisms,
and strategies for conservation. Topics include research techniques
for dating historic buildings and their components; assessing
the significance and condition of historic building features;
researching historic paint finishes; analyzing mortars; and conserving
plaster, masonry, wood, and decorative finishes. Students conduct
"hands on" research on historic building materials and
develop conservation treatment recommendations.
