HP 203 Conservation Techniques for Historic Structures

HP 203 provides an overview of architectural conservation for students with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests by examining the physical properties of historic building materials, deterioration mechanisms, and strategies for conservation. Topics include research techniques for dating historic buildings and their components; assessing the significance and condition of historic building features; researching historic paint finishes; analyzing mortars; and conserving plaster, masonry, wood, and decorative finishes. Students conduct "hands on" research on historic building materials and develop conservation treatment recommendations.
