Ian Grimmer is a Lecturer in European history who has taught at the University of Vermont since 2003. He completed his graduate work at the University of Chicago with a dissertation titled “The Politics of Geist: German Intellectuals and Cultural Socialism, 1890-1920.” Ian’s main scholarly interests are in modern European intellectual history, modern Germany, and social theory with a specific emphasis on the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In addition to offering courses on the development of European thought and culture for the history department, Ian is also a member of the Honors College’s first-year seminar core faculty and teaches in the Integrated Humanities Program. He is a recipient of UVM’s Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award for 2010.
