Department of History
Student - Julie Senk
Julie Senk, originally from Lynnfield, Massachusetts, received her B.A. in History from Johnson State College in 2009 and began the Historic Preservation Master's Program at UVM in order to further develop her love for history and cultural heritage.
This past summer, Julie was able to work with Eric Gilbertson of the Preservation Trust of Vermont where she traveled to many farms and assessed the conditions of historic barns and outbuildings. Julie also conducted work with Josh Phillips of the Vermont Division of Historic Preservation where she assisted him on surveying barns and outbuildings for the Vermont Barn Census.
She is currently inventorying Vermont grange halls and will use this information to compose a comprehensive history of the surviving buildings. She hopes to continue focusing on architectural history after graduation and to help interpret historic sites to the public in order to bridge a connection between communities and their unique pasts.
