The University of Vermont’s Community Service Programs (CSP) Office is housed in the Department of Student Life. Our mission is to foster a culture of student involvement, leadership, and learning through community service.
Through community service and co-curricular service-learning, the Community Service Programs Office aims to:
- Create a student experience which promotes many dimensions of development
- Create a strong culture of service across student communities and campus departments at UVM
- Connect UVM to the broader service community locally, nationally, and globally
- Promote the understanding and pursuit of cultural pluralism, social justice, and social issues
The following are the major components of the Community Service Programs Office:
- Advise and support student-led service organizations and programs, such as Volunteers in Action (VIA), Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, and Residents Involved in Service Experiences (RISE).
- Coordinate annual community service events, including Serve-A-Thon in September and Community Works in April for hundreds of UVM students, faculty, and staff.
- Help coordinate and support the events of UVM’s Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week during the 3rd week of November.
- Coordinate Community Service TREK, a week-long service program during the summer for incoming first-year students. Recent CS TREK projects include: Better Burlington TREK, Habitat for Humanity TREK, Catamount Trail TREK, and Green Mountain Long Trail TREK.
