About
the Team
The
UVM Men's and Women's Gymnastics Team trains at an off campus gym only
minutes away from UVM's main campus. Our facility is equipped
with all
men's and women’s equipment, including a foam pit and a 40ft tumble
track. The gym has everything from toddler to competitive team programs
and includes a day care, all of which present job possibilities, as
many of the UVM team members are employed here. We practice
in
the
evening and share practice time with a few of the HGA competitive team
members.
Club History
UVM
began its gymnastics involvement in 1964. During the subsequent years,
gymnastics at UVM has taken many forms - a recreational activity taught
in P.E. classes, a 20 year stint as a NCAA varsity team that produced
All-Americans, a USAG collegiate club that regularly would place as one
of the top 3 clubs teams in the country producing its own athletic and
academic All-Americans, and currently a NAIGC collegiate club that over
the past several years has placed 3rd, 2nd and 1st in the country.
The
NAIGC (National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs) is the
largest collegiate gymnastics club organization in the United States.
It sponsors approximately 30 men's teams (more than the NCAA) and 60
women's teams (more than NCAA Div. II and III combined and almost as
many as Div. I). There is a yearly national championship that is hosted
by one of its member clubs located all over the country. The UVM
Gymnastics Club recently won the NAIGC National Championship and this
indicates the quality of our club and the priority that many of our
team members give it.
