The Hot Club of San Francisco performs French Gypsy Jazz in the intricate style of guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli of the original Hot Club de France. Since their performance on the Lane Series over five years ago, we’ve been hankering to have them back: students and faculty are still talking about their incredible jazz guitar workshop we hosted as part of that visit. Django and Stephane may have invented the style, but the HCSF keeps it alive for a modern audience!

Traditional vocal world music has always been a favorite genre for the Lane Series audience. So when Aoife Clancy, the former vocalist of Cherish the Ladies and a singer we’ve always greatly admired, called to tell us about her new group, we were delighted to bring them to our hall. Four stunning female vocalists/instrumentalists from Ireland (Aoife), the US (Becky Chace), Australia (Kath Buckell), and Israel (Hadar Noiberg) come together to perform traditional and original music from their diverse cultures. Each is a noted artist in her own right; together, their voices blend into exquisite harmonies.
