Description: Presented by Tom Perry, BSR Board President / New Leaf Design
Presentation will begin at 7pm. The presentation will cover:
• · The value of building science and testing, what you need to know is pretty basic.
• · The importance of controlling the airflow through the envelope as much as possible.
• · Basic air-sealing specifics.
• · Typical (and perhaps atypical) thermal by-passes.
• · Health and safety consequences of this kind of work.
• · The Vermont Energy Code.
Who should attend? Carpenters, Remodelers, Builders, Architects, Weekend Warriors – anyone who would like to better understand how airflow in a building can positively or negatively impact the quality of the environment inside, and the building itself.

Description: VNRC and Thistle Hill Publications will officially launch the recent publication of "Greening Vermont: The Search for a Sustainable State" at 54 Main Street – the Goddard Art Gallery – in downtown Montpelier (across from City Hall).
The authors, Elizabeth Courtney and Eric Zencey, will be on hand to discuss and autograph this beautifully illustrated book—which makes a great Christmas gift. Refreshments will be served.

Burack Lecture: Dr. Pamela Matson

Description: Title: 'A New Era in Global Change Science: Linking Knowledge and Action for Sustainability'
Dr. Matson's research addresses a range of environment and sustainability issues, including sustainability of agricultural systems; vulnerability of particular people and places to climate change; the consequences of tropical deforestation on atmosphere, climate and water systems; and solutions to global change in the nitrogen and carbon cycles. With multi-disciplinary teams of researchers, managers, and decision makers, she has worked to develop agricultural approaches that reduce environmental impacts while improving livelihoods and human wellbeing. Dr. Matson serves on numerous boards and committees, including the National Academy of Science and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has produced nearly 200 publications, including "Seeds of Sustainability: Lessons from the Birthplace of the Green Revolution". Dr. Matson received her B.S. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire; her M.S. in Environmental Science from Indiana University; and her Ph.D. in Forest Ecology from Oregon State University.
