Green Mountain Battalion Newsletter Volume 1, Issue 1. October 2009.
I hope this message finds you well. ROTC has played an integral part in starting your careers as Army Officers. Many of you are continuing to wear the uniform and are progressing through the ranks while continuing to make the Green Mountain Battalion proud. Some of you have moved on from the military and are providing your expertise in the civilian sector. No matter which track you have taken you will always be a part of the Green Mountain Battalion. I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about some recent activities and upcoming events.
The Fall Semester has flown by, below is a list of some recent activities. Be sure to look at the pictures throughout the webpage.
1. Colonel Terry Lambert ('84) was
appointed as the
Alumni President of the Board.
2. The UVM ROTC webpage has undergone a facelift. Be sure
to go to
the Alumni section and enter your name and location.
3. We published a Fall Newsletter (check it out).
4. During the Fall Alumni Reception we formalized a few things,
The
Cadets posted the colors and new Cadets announced themselves and told
everyone
where there from.
5. During the UVM versus Boston College game, which was
broadcasted on
ESPNU, UVM President, Dr. Dan Fogel and the Vermont Adjutant General,
Major
General Michael Dubie ('82) presented three RECONDO Tabs at Center
Ice.
In addition we reinstituted the Charles Zabriskie Cup for top athlete /
scholar
-- this award was presented to Cadet Glory O'Neil ('10). Cadet
O'Neil earned the highest Army Physical Fitness Test score of the
entire Nation
during last summer’s Leader Development Assessment Course (LDAC),
formerly
known as "Advanced Camp". (The reception from the crowd was unreal)!
6. The Cadet color guard participated in a FIRST UVM Veteran's
Day
ceremony.
7. Several of the Senior Cadets participated in Harvard's
Veteran's Day
ceremony and met with the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Casey.
8. Your Ranger Challenge Team went from finishing 19 out 20 last
year to
6th place this year. Cadet O'Neil earned the top Army Physical
Fitness
Test score - no surprise there!
Upcoming events:
We are currently coordinating to have the Green
Mountain
Flag sewn on the UVM Hockey Jersey's in support of the Vermont National
Guard
deployment to Afghanistan. This is being funded by the Green
Mountain Battalion
Alumni. This ceremony will be held on December 6, 2009. Be
sure to
catch the action on ESPNU when UVM takes on UNH at 4:00pm!
