Framed by sweeping views of the Green Mountains...
and by the eastern shore of Lake Champlain, the
eighth
season of the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival will be hosted by
the University of Vermont from June 24 to July 21, 2012. This intensive
program of solo and chamber music study welcomes college, graduate, and
high school age musicians into an atmosphere of focused professionalism.
The festival fosters the artistic growth of committed young violinists, violists, cellists and pianists within a warm and supportive artistic community. We are aware also of our responsibility not simply to teach our students to perform, but ultimately to teach them to become advocates for their art. Our location in the vibrant city of Burlington allows us to explore new
models for bringing chamber music to those who would otherwise not be
at all aware of its delights, especially among the age group of our
student population. To this end, the festival sponsors WiREless, an initiative which has won support from the National Endowment for the Arts, to prepare young musicians on the verge of professional careers to become advocates for classical chamber music.
Along with its program of study for young musicians, the festival supports a chamber music series which has already taken its place among the most significant musical events in the region. The 2012 Green Mountain season offers a further expansion of our artist faculty roster with exquisite performances of compelling repertoire. We invite all who love chamber music to join in the work of the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival as we build on the success of our first seven seasons.
