A minor academic concentration in Middle East studies is available to undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences. Many students in various departments and colleges also take courses on the Middle East, fulfilling various college and departmental requirements, without formally declaring Middle East studies as their minor.

The Middle East Studies Program sponsors a variety of lectures and cultural events on campus related to the region. Please check our website and the GRS calendar for upcoming events during the year.

Beth Baron is Professor of History at the City College and Graduate Center of the City University of New York and
Co-Director of the Middle East and Middle Eastern American Center at the Graduate Center of CUNY. She is the author of Egypt as a Woman: Nationalism, Gender, and Politics (2007), The Women's Awakening in Egypt: Culture, Society, and the Press (1994) and the coeditor of Women in Middle Eastern History: Shifting Boundaries in Sex and Gender (1991) and Iran and Beyond: Essays in Middle Eastern History in Honor of Nikki R. Keddie (2000). She is also the current editor of International Journal of Middle Eastern Studies.
