The winner of the 2016 Global Studies Scholar Award is Sammie Ibrahim. Ms. Ibrahim is a triple major in Global Studies, Geography and Political Science with a minor in Russian. She is currently completing an Honors Thesis on the politics of refugee resettlement in the US. She is a past recipient of a Boren Fellowship to conduct language study in Kyrgyzstan and has undertaken several internships with the UN and international development agencies in Central Asia, Washington, DC and Burlington.

The co-winners of the Benedict Prize for Top Student Essay in International Affairs are Sammie Ibrahim (Global Studies) for her paper titled “Globalization and Transnational Political Mobilization: A Comparison of Diaspora Politics amongst Sikhs and Hindus” and Scott Pavek (Political Science) for his paper titled “The Causes of Foreign Military Intervention: Cold War Cases”
