“RUSSIAN HOUSE” EVENTS CALENDAR

Fall 2009


7:00 p.m.--Monday, August 31st:  Our first RH meeting to discuss your ideas for fall semester activities, events.  

7:00 p.m.--Monday, September 7th:  Labor day holiday—no classes and no RH meeting this week. 

7:00 p.m.--Monday, Sept 14th: 7:00 p.m.--Monday, Sept. 8th: Russian conversation hour: oral practice for first- and second-year students with Prof. McKenna.  Intermediate & upper students will work with Megan Luttrell, and/or Charlie Ruegger, and/or Tanya Sherman.

7:00 p.m.--Monday, Sept. 21st: Lecture by Prof. McKenna “A Cultural, Intellectual, and Political History of Russia.”  Living/Learning Center, Room 315.

7:00 p.m.--Monday, Sept. 28th: Russian conversation hour: oral practice for first- and second-year students with Prof. McKenna. Intermediate & upper students will work with Megan Luttrell, and/or Charlie Ruegger, and/or Tanya Sherman.

7:00 p.m.--Monday, Oct. 5th: “Fun with Russian Songs--I”  as pre-sented by Megan Luttrell, Russian major, former “Russian House” resident and recently returned from St. Petersburg University, Summer, 2009.  L/L Room 216.

7:00 p.m.--Monday, Oct. 12th: Russian conversation hour: oral practice for first- and second-year students with Prof. McKenna. Intermediate & upper students will work with Megan Luttrell, and/or Charlie Ruegger, and/or Tanya Sherman.

6:00 p.m.--Monday, Oct. 19th: Viewing of Russian film “Сибириада/ ''The Siberiade,'' with introduction and discussion by Prof. McKenna. Go to the Bailey-Howe Library Screening Room (basement of Bailey-Howe). 

7:00 p.m.—Monday, Oct. 26th: Lecture by Prof. McKenna: “The Legacy of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Russia’s Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature, 1970.”  L/L Room 216. 

7:00 p.m.--Monday, Nov. 2nd: Lecture/slide presentation by current UVM students, recently returned from Study-Abroad at various Russian universities (Tanya Sherman, Megan Luttrell, Caroline Rose, Liza Petow, Brendan Hamilton, Charlie Ruegger).  L/L Room 216.

 7:00 p.m.—Monday, Nov. 9th: Viewing of Russian film-comedy “Москва слезам не верит/ ''Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears,'' with introduction and discussion by Prof. McKenna. Go to the Bailey-Howe Library Screening Room (basement of Bailey-Howe).

7:00 p.m.--Monday, Nov. 16th: “Fun with Russian Songs-II” as presented by Megan Luttrell, Charlie Ruegger, and Tanya Sherman, Russian majors, recently returned from St. Petersburg University and Yaroslavl Univer-sity, 2009.  L/L Room 216.

7:00 p.m.—Monday, November 23rd: Thinking about accelerating your study of the Russian language to plan to study in Russia?  Prof. McKenna will talk about Intensive Russian Language Summer Institutes at Middlebury College, Indiana University, and the Monterrey Institution.  L/L Room 216. 

7:00 p.m.—Monday, Nov. 30th: Interested in Government, Business Career Opportunities in Russia?  Prof. McKenna will provide information about careers of former UVM Russian Majors, Currently Working in Russia.  L/L Room 216.

7:00 p.m.--Monday, Dec. 7th: Russian conversation hour: oral practice for first- and second-year students with Prof. McKenna. Intermediate & upper students will work with Megan Luttrell, and/or Charlie Ruegger, and/or Tanya Sherman.
