The Oglethorpe Company wants to buy large areas of Vermont forestland. If they buy the land they will not use it to grow trees. Instead, the company will use it to raise their world famous Oglethorpe sheep (whose wool is used to make world famous Oglethorpe socks). This means the company would cut down all the trees and plants on the land now.

You’ve been asked by the Vermont legislature to investigate what would happen if they sold the land to Oglethorpe. Use the information and links on this website to explore the effects of the deforestation that would take place. Then use what you learn to report back to the legislature.
