I was able to follow the quick tip at http://codex.wordpress.org/Answers-Installation#Rename_Folder to update the WordPress address (URI): and Blog address (URI): values to not include the wordpress directory. I then renamed my public_html folder and mv’ed worpress to public_html.

I want to make WordPress my homepage and get rid of the “template.”
