Construction and Demolition Waste Management Program

The construction and demolition (C&D) waste management program at the University of Vermont was established in coordination with several departments including Capital Planning and Management (the Green Building Coordinator), Facilities Design and Construction, and the Physical Plant (Recycling and Solid Waste Management).

In the fall of 2006, with efforts to increase campus sustainability and promotion of UVM as one of the leading environmental universities, the institution applied for and received a Regional Resource Conservation Challenge Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The grant was used to improve C&D waste management including efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle whenever the opportunity presents itself.

The goal of any environmental management system (EMS) and the C&D waste program at UVM, is to demonstrate accountability while continuously improving the management system. Construction and Demolition Waste Online Tracking Tool

One of the grant deliverables was a web based tool for collection of data for the management of construction and demolition waste on campus. This tool supports the University's Commitment to LEED certification of new construction and major renovation projects.
