2014 Mediated Modeling Workshop

Mediated Modeling Workshop

Monday May 12, 2014

8:30am to 4:30pm

Sheraton Hotel Conference Center

Burlington, Vermont

Welcome

We invite you to participate in the next “mediated modeling” workshop facilitated by the Research on Adaptation to Climate Change team. Please join us for:

  • An overview of the interconnected nature of climatic, hydrological, land-use and lake dynamics being studied and modeled by the RACC team
  • An overview of the governance design, policy composition, and resource availability dynamics shaping the region’s future responses to climate change
  • A deeper discussion of the potential adaptive interventions derived through the 6-week Delphi Forum (css2cc.org) on Crowdsourcing Climate Change Solutions for Lake Champlain Basin
  • An introduction to the Integrated Assessment Models being devised to simulate alternative futures being devised by the RACC team discussed

Participants will work in small groups with the findings from the online crowdsourcing forum to consider alternative situations, and help the RACC research team to develop realistic, alternative scenarios that will feed into simulation models. In addition, stakeholder groups will also be asked to weight the values and goals that will be used to evaluate the scenario outcomes.

The day will include a discussion, led by a panel of regional thought leaders, about building capacity to effectively respond to climate change using crowdsourcing, citizen science, visualization, gaming and simulation.

Ample time to network, share particular intervention strategies, and brainstorm the needs of the Lake Champlain region will be provided.
